  39. I found out today that "nobody likes the Cushcraft satellite antennas". 
  40. Is this a fact or just an opinion?
  41. I wonder what is the "better" antenna combination for 144/430? Is the KLM 
  42. that great? 
  43. I have an Cushcraft R7 and a Mosley CL 33 that I use for 
  44. HF right now. I have used Cushcraft antennas for six and VHF before with 
  45. no particular problems. Is there a problem with the AOP-1 or what?

  106. Looks like Mode S is the way to go for most
  107. portable station that can work well through 
  108. AO-13. Maybe that is why they have Mode B 
  109. receiving contests--takes a lot more work to 
  110. hear the transponder noise floor....

  112. As I thought, as confirmed by G3RUH in a
  113. recent published letter, the beacon uses
  114. *all* the transponder power, thus you
  115. want to be *weaker* than the beacon.
  116. During a busy pass, I guess this means you
  117. want your signal to be at least 6 dB 
  118. weaker, to accomodate at least 4 users.

  120. My 2 foot dish for for 2.4 GHz receive
  121. is probably too big, I'll be trying a 
  122. small helix with a 0.4 dB system NF converter
  123. when (if?) the weather gets nice outside.

  125. Wonder if anyone has gotten the HP PHEMT
  126. to work well on this band?  The data sheet
  127. says a device NF of 0.13, but given the
  128. error inherant in such a measurement, it
  129. might be no better than other PHEMTs.  I'll
  130. be bringing something to the West Coast
  131. VHF conference for comparison.

  183. The most current orbital elements from the NORAD two-line element sets are
  184. carried on the Celestial BBS, (513) *253-9767*, and are updated daily (when
  185. possible).  Documentation and tracking software are also available on this
  186. system.  As a service to the satellite user community, the most current
  187. elements for the current shuttle mission are provided below.  The Celestial
  188. BBS may be accessed 24 hours/day at 300, 1200, 2400, 4800, or 9600 bps using
  189. 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity.

  191. Element sets (also updated daily), shuttle elements, and some documentation
  192. and software are also available via anonymous ftp from archive.afit.af.mil
  193. (129.92.1.66) in the directory pub/space.
